Looks like has iced up and with below freezing temps ice should thicken.

I will report when ice fishermen start moving out .

Thursday 10/4 report

The summer fishing is over for the Ace boat and dock out on 9/29.

I spent 86 days on the lake this year catching about 1200 fish.

Keeper eyes 133 small eyes 410 these figures are from my daily log.

Totals were about the same as last year even though I spent less time on the water.

Having my boat re carpeted this fall will be ready to start on opening day 2013.

Late start 8:30 cool clear calm fishing good.

Orange blade working well crawlers best bait.

Poonton on the lake in the afternoon with friends life can't get better than that.

Light chop trolled only. Orange blades worked best white also produced.

Cool and calm nice trolling conditions very slow bite.

Choppy fishing started at 7:00 trolled 1/2 hour drifted 2 hours trolled in for the last 1/2 hour

1 keeper eye 5 small eyes 3 perch 1 rockie 1 gill.

The CWC reported 2 keepers each day  for the last 2 days.

Monday 8/27 report

Cloudy choppy waited until 8 AM to start . Boat control was the key caught 31 fish in 5 hours.

2 keeper eyes 1 gill 1 crappie 2 perch went in the live well.

Total count19 eyes 4 large mouth 2 pike 2 perch 1 rockie 1 smallie 1gill 1crappie.

Crawlers and leaches with 3 different colors all worked.

Saturday8/25 and Sunday 8/26 report

Ace Big jon and son of ace fished 3 hours catching 11 total fishon Saturday.

Big jon had 2 keeper eyes and turned swell headed, in the future he will be refered to as

PLJ.

Sunday Ace fished alone for 4 hours caught 21 fish. 2 keeper eyes 10 smalleyes,

7 pan fish 1 pike 1 large mouth.

18 fish in 4 hours still having trouble finding keeper eyes.

Light chop to start wind picked up  then laid back down.

Trolled and drifted trolling worked best shinny blades worked well.

1 keeper eye 7 small eyes 5 perch 3 rock bass 1 pike 1 sunfish.

Calm and cool to start trolled 1 hour wind came up drifted 3 hours

wind let up trolled 1/2 hour.

Caught 1 keeper eye 6 small eyes 5 perch 2 pike 1 large mouth 1 rock bass.

Warming trend forecast for the next few days fishing should pick up.

No fishing at Houghton Lake windy.

A special report on a Saturday fishing trip to Frankfort to fish Lake Mi.

Big Jon and his wife Nancy invited me to fish with them on a charter.

WE fished with Capt. Double Deuce (Dennis Gibson) Power Trip charters.

Great day we boated 6 nice kings averaging 16 lbs (over 100 lbs of fish).

I would recommend every fisher person to try this. The Capt. and mate make this a trip to remember.

Their ability to help you catch and land fish is out standing.

Landing these fish is hard enjoyable experience. I recommend it to all fishermen.

Trolled about an hour winds came up drifted 3 hours.

Choppy water drifted caught 24 fish in boat 1 no keeper eyes.

Sunday Jon Bill Ace fished 5 hours caught 34 fish .

2 keeper eyes 1 gill in live well. Trolled around middle grounds caught most fish in front of Laphans.

Right day wrong spot. NE winds made trolling hard drifting caught small fish.

Caught 9 small eyes 5 pike 5 perch 4 rock bass in 4 hours of fishing.

Stopped to visit a friend he had 2 keeper eyes and some nice gills

he didn't care fore the wind from the NE.

Fish fry at the Chiefs today between 50 and 60 guest expected.

Jon Jon from N Carolina and Nick from Jackson had another good day fishing with Ace.

5 keeper eyes,2 crappies (over 12 in.), 1 9 in gill for the hot grease.

Trolled SE edge of middle grounds color made a difference shinny blades worked well.

Several small eyes rock bass,perch,large mouth, and 2 pike completed day.

We caught several more small eyes,rock bass,perch and a large mouth.

Hot and calm came in ate lunch and went tubing to cool off.

THIRD DAY IN A ROW LIMIT OF EYES.

Morning fishing started 5:45 ended 9:20 total fish 23.

5 keeper eyes 10 small eyes 3 perch 2 gills 1 each pike,small mouth, largemouth.

Trolled 4 different edges before i found keepers. Bite was light almost had to have

pole in hand to hook fish. Worms and leaches worked equally well.

Different day different shirt same ace same results.

Lines in by 5:40 lines out 7:40. Caught 5 keeper eyes 8 small

1 each pike perch bluegill small mouth.

Color or bait didn't seem to make any difference.

Trolled weed edge from public launch towards Prudenville for 3 1/4 hours

caught 2 keepers and 19 other fish went to the next edge and trolled west towards home

caught 3 keepers and 3 small eyes in the next 35 min. headed home.

Three day update.Saturday was fish fry day fished early with Big Jon and Son of Ace .

2 1/2 hours netted 2 keeper eyes and 1 large gill in the box total fish 17.

Warm with light wind trolled 4 different edges until we found active fish.

Trolled south from Horse shoe weed bed to my top turn no fish .

Went to my honey hole trolled until 9:25 after 19 fish.

6 small eyes 3 rock bass 2 other perch 1 pike total fish 19.

Ace and son hit the watter at 6 am quit 11 am caught 30 fish.

The Chief reported a limit by 8 am he found new hot spot.

Son the record show that he caught the most keepers score 4 to 2.

Ace in the boat alone choppy wind SW drifted all morning.

I fished several edges looking for good fish caught 21 total in 5 hours.

1 keeper eye and 2 nice pan fish went to Dan the only friend that will clean fish.

NE wind choppy tried drifting out front at first edge.

Great morning cool and calm started fishing 5:40.

Armed with fresh bait from Papa's bait started trolling SE at 8 ft.

Hit the weed edge at 10 ft turned east fish started bitting.

Headed west trolled edge as far as Songer's turned trolled back east.

Caught 5 keeper eyes 5 small eyes 1 pike 1 gill quit at 7;45

Cloudy light SE wind with threat of thundershowers.

Started at 6 out front trolling east and west on weed edge.

Fished until wind came up just before 10: 00.

Worms seemed to work better than leaches,color didn't seem to matter.

Fished 5 different edges trolling and drifting fish were not biting.

A good day fishing 5 keepers 11 small eyes 3 pike 3 pan fish 2 perch [1 was 12 inches.

Cool and clear with little wind trolled east and west edge out front caught a few .

Trolled south to my top turn fish were hitting at far south edge had 3 fish on at one time.

Fish 5 hours total fish 24. worms and leaches working equal color made no difference.

Cool and choppy winds from NE 6mph when I started 12 mph when I stopped.

Drifted out front for 2 hours caught 7 fish.

2 keeper eyes 3 smalleyes 2 pike.

Whitecaps pushed me off at 8:30.

West wind 6 mph fished the east edge of the middle grounds drifting.

1 and 1/2 hours small perch were all that hit.

Trolled into the wind on same edge caught 23 fish.

3 keeper eyes 2 small eyes 9 pan fish 1 pike 1 crappie 7 perch .

Cleaned the eyes 1 blue gill over 9 inches and the 11 inch crappie.

Wind picked up quit at 11 am.

Breezy warm fished 3and 1/2 hours caught 9 fish

Dirty water from windy afternoon and night winds slowed bite.

Big Jon and Ace hit the lake at 5:45 dodged the rain until 9:30.

Came in a little damp but still a good morning no need to mention

Good fishing today caught 34 fish from 6:00 until 9:30.

5 keeper eyes 7 small eyes 7sunfish blue gill mix 6 pike 6 large mouth 3 perch.

Cloudy light W wind fished the north east middle ground edge around 9 feet.

Color didn't seem to matter fish all 3 colors I had on.

Early start 5:35 went to NE edge middle grounds  fish were biting.

Caught 12 fish in the frist 2 hours .

2 small eyes 3 pike 2 perch 3 bluegills 2 large mouth.

Wind came up fish quit. I came in cleaned 3 gills and 1 perch.

Wednesday 6/6 report

Cool calm start at 5:50 trolled three spots looking for fish.

Two hours and only 2 fish moved to east edge of the middle grounds.

The next 2 hours 17 fish.  2 keeper eyes 6 small eyes 7 pike 3 perch 1 sun fish.

Large may flies starting to hatch fishing should be better Thursday.

Fishing was a little better today I caught 18 fish in 4 hours.

Finally got back on the lake.but fishing was poor.

I blame it on dirty water  and poor wind direction NE wind .

 Wind was down enough to try fishing started at 6:00.

Big NO Bait JON and Ace in the boat after setting Jon up and showing him current fishing

technique we started catching fish are total was 35.

Jon 3 keeper eyes 8 small eyes 3 pike 1 rock bass 1 sunfish 2 perch (one 12 and 1/2 inches).

Ace 1 keeper eye 4 small eyes 5 pike 2 largemouth 2 sunfish and 2 gills (both near 10 inches) 1 perch.

Jon won bragging rights for most fish.with my bait and tackle.

Fishing stopped at 10:00 .

A great day fishing cool and calm warming fast trolled east edge of middle grounds.

Caught 13 small eyes 4 keeper eyes 11 pike 1 large mouth 1 crappie and 9 pan fish.

I kept the crappie and 7 gills and sunfish total fish count 39 . my best day this year.

Color of the day purple and white worms worked best.

Tuesday 5/22 report

Cool winds from the north at 7 fishrd from 6:20 until 10:00.

Caught 3 keeper eyes 2 small eyes 7 pike 3 large mouth 2 perch.

Trolled and drifted east edge middle grounds color and bait

was not a factor 17 fish in 3 and 1/2 hours is good fishing.

Late start over slept. Fished with Big Jon trolled the cut river drop and the headed south along the east edge of the middle grounds. We fished about 4 hours I caught 5 pike 1 small eye 1 perch 1 gill
Jon caught 4 pike and 1 small eye. Wind picked up we quit fishing at 10:30.

Made two complete turns caught 1 keeper eye 1 small eye 5 pike.

Changed colors nothing worked better than the copper blade.

Ran into the Chief he had 1 keeper it went into my live well for the fish fry.

Weather was cool with light winds I am doing about the same as this time last year.

Cloudy cool light winds started fishing 6:25.

Drifted weed edge east of public launch.

Caught 1 keeper the first drift and 1 small eye.

No more fish in the next 2 1/2 hours.east north east wind not my favorite.

trolled back home 2 more small eyes 1 pike about 26 in.

Chief fished flint rd weeds 2 hours 4 small eyes.

Water temp dropped 3 degrees from yesterday slowed fish bite.

Friday 5/4/12ost

Foggy calm cool started fishing at 6:30.

Trolled from Songer's point towards the Cut river then along the drop off to Flint rd.

Caught 3 keeper eyes 4 small eyes 5 pike 1 perch fished until 11:30.

Saw the Chief fishing the same area he caught 1 keeper and 4 small eyes.

Copper blades worked best fo him while purple blades were best for me.

Water temp was up to 55 the fish startsd bitting better.

Started fishing at 6:30. Cloudy light chop drifted Horse shoe weed bed no hits.

Trolled weed edges out front and in front of public launch 1 small pike.

Quit at 10:30. Talked to the Chief he caught 4 eyes (1 keeper) 1 small mouth

in front of Flint road. Used hot in tots and shad rap rappels in addition to my crawler harness

will try again   Wednesday weather permitting.

Rain windy cool took the day off will try tomorrow.

Sunday April 29 post

Day two cold 25 degrees Ace Sam and Cathy on the lake from 8 until 11.

Sunny and no wind so it didn't seem quite as cold. We fished out front trolling east to the

public launch then moved to east bay in front of Harvey's Marina.

WE stayed along the drop off edges but were unable to catch any fish.

This is the first time in over 5 years that this has happened.

the weather is going to warm up this week I'm sure fishing will pick up.

Opening morning cold (31) light wind from NE.

Ace and Cathy on the water by 6:15 caught the first walleye by 6:30 undersized.

fished until 9:45 caught 5 pike and a smallmouth bass.

More fish than last year on opening day hoping for warmer weather .

2012 pre tip up town ice and fishing report

The ace don't ice fish but I keep track of ice conditions and word of mouth fishing results.

There is about 6 to 8 inches of ice on most of the lake with small open areas at west end .

Best fishing is said to be by Harveys in east bay.reports of eyes up to 22 inches.

Pike and pan fish west of public launch on county rd 100.

Cold weather forecast for weekend of  1/13 should give tip up town good ice.
